I’m not a big one for going overboard on seasonal decorating, except at Christmas when all taste and restraint goes out the window and every space is filled, but I do like having some areas of the home that change to display the season.

I love decorating my fireplace, for example, and there’s a slate cake display that I find irresistible to fill with candles, figures and small found objects that make me feel the spirit of the season is on me.

Today, I decorated for Autumn. Fabric leaves, conkers and acorns, candles in soothing, soft scents like cashmere and sandalwood and the colours of Autumn all round. Bliss.
